The Choir Dinner

Last night we had our yearly Choir dinner- it seems like such a long time since the last one. This year has gone past very quickly in some ways, but it's scary to think how long ago things like the choir dinner and May Ball seem now... I suppose a lot has happened since. It was a great evening, with excellent company, brilliant food and copious amounts of extremely expensive booze- made you realise how lucky one is (ooh, how ivory tower is that) to be in Cambridge and be able to come to dinners in such lovely surroundings. Here's Clover and myself beforehand in the Fellow's Garden;

So, the menu, with the wines bracketed:

Chilled cucumber and avocado soup garnished with roasted garlic croute

(Bourgogne Blanc Les Setilles (Leflaive) 2002)

*****

Roast Duck breast with honey and all spice
Braised celery in orange
Steamed bok choi
Dauphinoise potatoes

(Borgogne Rouge (Fichet) 1998)

*****

Strawberry Creme Brulee

*****

Welsh Rarebit

*****

Coffee
Dessert + Salted Almonds

(Sc Lezongars 2001)
(Couteaux du layon St Catherine 1986)
(Quinta do Noval LBV 1997)

Pretty good stuff! The dessert wine was the same as last year's excellent stuff, so I managed to make off with a half bottle which we'll enjoy later- sadly there weren't any unopened bottles going spare like last time but it was a consolation...
