Ottawa - a fine city

After our mixed feelings about Niagara, we were delighted by everything in Ottawa. A big comfortable, if rather anonymous, hotel (the Westin), and a capital city that looked like a capital, yet was relaxed and fun. Yes, Ottawa came up trumps for us.


We had a wonderful view of Parliament Hill from our room, and for us Ottawa was all about Parliament, becaus it dominates the city. We spent most of a morning there, walking around it and taking the tour inside. That evening we joined the hundreds of people enjoying the son et lumiere displayed on the building.

But Ottawa's charm is more than just that. It's street buskers' festival was on when we arrived and we had huge fun watching them perform on Spark Street. We thought the grand, modern National Gallery another special place and had a great seafood meal nearby at a restaurant in By Ward market.

Another fun day was spent at the huge wooden Chateau Montbello resort hotel halfway to Montreal where we met Gill's Loose Ends colleague Nadine and her husband, Todd. Such entertaining company.
