Fondue and Marshmallows

Have just finished clearing up the debris from a rather nice evening of messy eating...

After the success of our chocolate fondue towards the beginning of term we were determined to have a repeat performance- but as Alex has given up chocolate for lent we thought we'd try a proper fondue. Despite the fact that we were very much improvising with limited cooking utensils and our customary incompetence it all went very well- and to prove it, have some photographic evidence;

Despite being pretty stuffed by the fondue we then moved on to our next culinary treat- marshmallows toasted on my electric fireplace. After all (as Nick explained at great length), marshmallows only contain 350 calories per 150g, the perfect antidote to the artery-clogging richness of the fondue. It all worked surprisingly well, and the frequent cursing as marshmallows fell behind the grille and liquidised sugar dripped on people's hands was a nice antidote to the slightly forced politness of last night's drinks with the Master.

So, an entertaining evening- although next time I think I'll make sure we do it in somebody else's room so I don't have to spend three quarters of an hour trying to shift encrusted cheese out of my saucepan and burnt sugar from my fireplace...
