Have the men had enough?
What a powerful book I just put down.
Another of Margaret Forster's compelling novels about domestic situations "Have the men had enough?" explores the effects of senile dementia on a family and though it begins in a darkly humorous vein, the end is bleak and uncompromising. The story is told in two female voices from different generations, and the family members' varied responses to their insurmountable problem are thoughtprovoking and credible. Though the women are the principal characters in the book, I felt Charlie, the son/husband/father to be the haunting personality, and thought his character was beautifully and sensitively written.
Definitely one for my book group!
