Fun in New York

After our few days in Colorado, we went our separate ways for a short time - Gillie headed straight for New York, meeting Jordi from the Thread Ends list and enjoying a few days shopping and exploring girly things.

Meeting Jordi was great. Sharing similar interests, we spent a couple of days in and out of knitting shops, visiting the Matisse Textiles exhibition at the Metropolitan (paying our entrance fee the New Yorkers way) and walking the streets of the lower west side, taking note of the wonderful architecture and putting the world to rights as we went along. Finally, our last night was spent with the NYC Stitch'n'Bitch group - a fun gathering in a desperately hot and sticky cellar!

Paracelso on Broadway was fun, with Mme Luxor the star of the show with her surreal conversation about Otley Market and M Shiptons Dropping well.

We loved ABC Carpet and Home and spent ages wandering around marvelling at the display techniques - paid a second visit later in the week with Mark, who was similary enthralled.

The knitting shops were great.

Habu were all friendly places with completely different stocks of delicious yarn and inspiration - and altogether different from the relaxed chic of the Los Angeles knitting stores.
Kate's Paperie was a little disappointing after all the hype, but there was plenty of other places to make up for that, and hey, there were bargains to be had in the Eileen Fisher sale.

Mark arrived a couple of days later, on the day of the Dominican parade, which Gillie had enjoyed watching, having given up on the Soundwalk tour by ipod. We spent our time walking around and discovering further places of interest - the Lincoln Centerand the Juilliard Bookstore, Central Park and the New York Public Library. Dinner with Avrohom and Sarah at Solo was fun - it's always great to meet people after years of email correspondence, as we know very well.

We found ourselves enjoying New York more than we'd anticipated - clearly due to the fact that we had "local knowledge" from friends who could point us in all the right directions!
