A weekend in Wales
Got back last night from a few days in North Wales, somewhere neither of us had been in quite a few years. The catalyst was Edward's Peterhouse choir tour, and Evensong in Bangor Cathedral on Monday evening.
We started at Margam Park on Saturday, where Gillie was judging the craft entries (nearly 400 of them - phew) and went on to spend Saturday night at Ynyshir Hall:
We had the Renoir Suite which was comfortable, if not quite our favoured style. The cuisine was very much to our taste, however, and we enjoyed a delicious set tasting menu that evening.
Setting off early on Sunday morning, we headed first to Harlech Castle and then fought our way through Bank Holiday traffic to our destination, Portmeirion where we enjoyed pottering about a little before dinner.
On Monday, we drove through Ffestiniog and rain to Conwy, which was a little dreary in the drizzle. We carried on over the Menai Bridge to Anglesey, by which time the sky was brightening and the sun coming out. Spent a few hours exploring the island before heading back to Bangor where Evensong was planned for 5.30pm. Met Edward briefly before the service and then spent half an hour exploring Bangor. Didn't take long!
The service itself was good and they sang the Stanford Mag and Nunc in C and Evening Hymn by Balfour Gardiner well, we thought. What a good feeling it is to be proud parents!
We drove home on Tuesday, stopping en route at Colinette
What a fun weekend - and a fine way to mark the 27th anniversary of our first meeting...
