Feast

Had the Benefactors feast last night- a service, followed by the by-now customary epic quantities of food and drink. Have no idea how I'll cope in the real world after graduation having got used to stuff like this. The feast commemorates those who gave large amount of money or other bequests for the College- amongst the famous names in there are Edward I, the Revolutionary War General William Burgoyne, Lord North (Of Fox-North coalition fame) and Baron Kelvin (who lent his name to the temperature measurement). Nobody _really_ famous though, all the really talented people go elsewhere...
So, the menu... Butterbean, Calvados and Thyme soup for the Starter, followed by a Pheasant on a Potato cake for the main. Pudding was a neopolitan parfait of some description. All very nice, although we felt the quality was a little down on some of last years- put together with what we got in my first year it's very noticeable that we're being palmed off with less then we used to get. Still though, was an entertaining evening. Pity Clover couldn't be there but will see her next week so that's ok. Highlights included having quite a few gossipy questions we were wondering about being finally answered, a nifty bit of reconciliation-engineering on my part (impressive after all that port!), and everyone being incapable of singing madrigals at the end for the 2nd feast in a row.
