Lunch in London

We met for lunch in London yesterday, just by the Tower on a beautifully clear Spring like day. Walked over the bridge to the Butlers Wharf Chop House where we enjoyed the usual fantastic food - a huge piece of Roast Beef and Yorkshire Pudding for Gillie, steak and kidney pudding for Mark and Edward (though Mark rather wished he'd not gone for the optional addition of oysters).

Walking along the Thames from Tower Bridge to Tate Modern the weather revealed the city in all its glory.

As we came towards the City Hall building, we spotted people high on a viewing balcony, so made our way there and went inside. Stunning building; we loved the views of both inside and out.

Having added this great building to our list of favourite places (Mary!) we carried on along the walkway, past Southwark Cathedral and a replica of the Golden Hinde to Tate Modern.

We particularly wanted to see Rachel Whiteread's exhibit "Embankment" in the turbine hall.

We really enjoyed seeing this, the more so having heard her on Desert Island Discs on Friday morning, explaining how it had come about.

One of us found the stacking style on the right more to his liking than that on the left!

As the afternoon sunshine faded, a footsore walk over the Millennium Bridge towards St Pauls and the tube back to Kings Cross and the car park at Piccadilly brought a really great day out to a close.
