Thursday

We've spent another day at Edna's bedside, watching her breathing become more laboured and thinking on several occasions that she was losing her fight. But no, it's not time yet and she's not ready to give in. She sleeps for most of the time, but when her eyes open, it appears that she recognises that we are there and I feel sure she hears what we say to her too.

The nursing staff ensure that she is in no pain and deal with the slightest hint of discomfort with exemplary patience and kindness. We have come back to Cottingham for a third night, half expecting the promised telephone call to inform us of any change in her condition.

As always, we appreciate your kind thoughts, prayers and good wishes.
